Lung Cancer Awareness Month: early detection saves lives .  Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related death among Americans. Cigarette smoking and secondhand smoke exposure account for roughly 80% to 90% of all lung cancer deaths, according to the CDC. Early detection dramatically improves outcomes. The overall five-year survival rate for lung cancer is about 29%; it exceeds 65% when the disease is found at an early, localized stage. Annual screenings are recommended for adults between 50 and 80 who have a 20-pack-per-year smoking history, currently smoking or quit within the past 15 years. The Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce is collecting non-perishable food items for Charlotte CARE Center to help families in need for the Thanksgiving & Christmas holidays.  Items may be dropped off at the Charlotte County Chamber-think stuffing mix, instant mashed potatoes, gravy, canned vegetables or pie fillings, cake mixes, cranberry sauce and similar items to support the meal.  Thank you for your support!
