There are moments in the life of an organization when you stop, look back at how far you have traveled, celebrate those who helped you get there, and then turn your attention toward the opportunities waiting on the road ahead.

For the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce, our 101st Annual Awards “Open Road” Gala is one of those moments. This is more than an annual event. It is more than dinner, awards, music, and celebration. It was an evening that represents 101 years of leadership, vision, relationships, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to our business community.

Think about that for a moment; 101 years.

For more than a century, business and community leaders have believed in the importance of having a strong Chamber of Commerce serving Charlotte County. Generations of leaders have given their time, shared their vision, made difficult decisions, and laid the foundation that allows us to be the organization we are today.

As CEO, I believe it is important that we never forget those who came before us. Our past leadership created the legacy we have inherited. Our current leadership carries the responsibility of strengthening that legacy. And our future leadership will determine just how far we can go. That is what makes this celebration so meaningful.

During our 101st Annual Awards Gala, we recognized our outstanding 2026 Businesses of the Year in the Large, Medium, Small, and Nonprofit categories, along with our Ambassador of the Year, and our prestigious Pacesetter Award recipient.

These award winners represent the very best of our business community. They create jobs, invest in people, support local organizations, take risks, overcome challenges, and help make Charlotte County stronger every single day.

On a personal note, I would like to convey my utmost respect, appreciation, and gratitude to our outgoing Board President, James Coalwell, for your leadership, guidance, support and most importantly, your friendship. But while we proudly celebrate our accomplishments, we are not an organization that is satisfied looking in the rearview mirror.

Our theme, “Open Road Gala Riding into the Next Century,” says everything about where we are headed. The road ahead requires us to be bold. It requires us to remain relevant, innovative, collaborative, and willing to evolve. It means strengthening our advocacy, developing tomorrow’s leaders, creating meaningful connections, supporting businesses of every size, and continuing to demonstrate the value of belonging to something larger than ourselves.

I am looking forward to collaborating with our incoming Board President, Peri Bluemer, with her extensive leadership, strategic vision, and her relatable approach.

Our Mission says it simply and powerfully: We empower businesses to thrive! And that is exactly what we intend to continue doing. I could not be prouder to serve as CEO of this organization, but even more importantly, I am proud of the people who make up our Chamber family.

Our members, Sustaining Partners, volunteers, Board members, Ambassadors, staff, and community partners are the heartbeat of everything we accomplish. One hundred and one years did not happen by accident. It happened because people believed, people served, people led, and people cared enough to leave this organization stronger than they found it.

We honor the road behind us. We celebrate where we are today. And together, with purpose, courage, and tremendous excitement, we are ready to take the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce boldly down the open road and into its next century.

The best chapters of our story are still ahead.

What makes Charlotte County strong? It’s our people. It’s our partnerships. It’s our willingness to work together. And at the heart of it all is an incredible business community that believes in Charlotte County and invests in its future every single day. Behind every storefront, office, restaurant, construction company, professional service, manufacturer, healthcare provider, and entrepreneur is a story. A story of someone willing to take a chance, create jobs, pursue a dream, and make an investment in our community. But the impact of our businesses reaches far beyond the workplace.

Our businesses support our schools, nonprofits, veterans, first responders, youth programs, and community organizations. They sponsor events, volunteer countless hours, serve on boards, mentor future leaders, and are often among the first to step forward when our community needs help. As CEO of the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce, I have the privilege of witnessing that commitment every day; and I could not be prouder of what I see.

Most importantly, I see people who genuinely care about the future of Charlotte County. That is our competitive advantage. A strong business community creates more than jobs and economic opportunity. Last week, the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce proudly hosted a special reception to reveal and celebrate our incoming Leadership Charlotte Class of 2027.

What an incredible evening it was! More than 100 Leadership Charlotte alumni came together to welcome the new class, reconnect with fellow graduates, and show their enthusiastic support for the next generation of community leaders.

Now entering its 38th year, Leadership Charlotte continues to be the premier program of the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce.

Since its inception, Leadership Charlotte classes have made a tremendous impact throughout our community, giving back more than $1 million directly to organizations and causes serving the needs of Charlotte County.

Celebrating the people who make our community strong

As we celebrate Labor Day, I want to take a moment to recognize something that makes Charlotte County truly special; the incredible people who work every day to make our community a better place to call home.

Labor Day is much more than a three-day weekend or the unofficial end of summer. It is an opportunity to recognize the hardworking men and women whose dedication, determination, and commitment have helped build our businesses, strengthen our economy, care for our families, and shape the community we are so fortunate to enjoy.

Every day, I have the privilege of seeing that spirit firsthand. I see it in our small-business owners taking chances and pursuing dreams. I see it in employees who take pride in serving others, our first responders and healthcare professionals, our educators, tradespeople, hospitality workers, nonprofit organizations, and so many others who simply roll up their sleeves and get the job done.

Behind every successful business and every strong community are people who care. So, this Labor Day, I hope you find time to relax, enjoy family and friends, and reflect on the important role each of us plays in making Charlotte County stronger.

Community is the business we are all in

There are many ways to measure the strength of a community.

We can count new businesses, new homes and new opportunities. We can look at economic growth and all the things being built around us.

But perhaps the best measure of a community is much simpler: How well do we take care of one another?

Here in Charlotte County, we see the answer every day. We see it in the small business owner who sponsors a youth team, even when nobody will ever know the difference it makes to the family whose child gets to play. We see it in teachers who stay late, first responders who answer the call, volunteers who give up their Saturdays and neighbors who notice when someone needs a helping hand.

We see it when a family walks into a locally owned restaurant and is greeted by name. When a business owner quietly contributes to a fundraiser. When someone new to Charlotte County is welcomed not simply as another resident, but as a neighbor.

Those moments rarely make headlines. Yet, together, they tell the story of who we are.

At the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce, we have the privilege of working with businesses and organizations throughout our community. We naturally talk about jobs, growth and economic opportunities. Those things matter tremendously.

But behind every business are people. There is a family depending on that paycheck, a young person getting a first job and discovering what he or she is capable of, an entrepreneur taking a chance on a dream, or a longtime employee proudly serving the same customers year after year.

That is why supporting our local community means more than simply doing business locally. It means believing in one another.

Charlotte County has experienced changes, challenges and difficult days. Through it all, one thing remains remarkably constant: people show up for each other.

So perhaps our challenge is simply to keep doing that. Introduce yourself to the new neighbor, thank the person behind the counter, support a local business when you can, volunteer, mentor a young person, or check on someone who lives alone.

Small acts have a way of becoming something much bigger. Businesses help build an economy and people build a community. And when we take care of one another, we make Charlotte County more than a place to live.

Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce Annual New Teacher Breakfast

As the school bells ring once again this month, a new school year begins for thousands of students, teachers, school staff, and families throughout Charlotte County.

It’s an exciting time filled with new opportunities, fresh beginnings, and high hopes for the year ahead.

It is also a reminder that each of us has an important role to play in keeping our community safe.

During the first few weeks of school, traffic patterns will change significantly. School buses will be back on the roads, children will be walking and riding bicycles, and parents will be dropping off and picking up students.

We encourage everyone to leave a little earlier, slow down in school zones, eliminate distractions while driving, and remain alert for children who may unexpectedly enter the roadway.

A few extra seconds of patience can make all the difference.

At the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce, we believe Charlotte County Public Schools are one of our community’s greatest assets. They educate our future workforce, develop tomorrow’s leaders, and help shape the quality of life that makes Charlotte County such a wonderful place to live, work, and play.

Our teachers, administrators, support staff, and volunteers dedicate countless hours to helping every student succeed, and we are grateful for their commitment.

We also encourage our local businesses and residents to continue supporting our schools throughout the year.

Whether it’s mentoring a student, volunteering, sponsoring school programs, donating classroom supplies, or simply offering words of encouragement to educators, every act of kindness strengthens our entire community.

This is a great opportunity to hear form each candidate to share their vision and platform. We will have candidates from the County Commissioner (District 2), County Commissioner (District 4), City Council (District 1), City Council (District 4), Circuit Court Judge (District 20/Group 19), Circuit Court Judge (District 20/Group 27), State Representative (District 75), and State Representative (District 76).

More than a purchase, it’s an Investment in our community

As CEO of the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce, one of the greatest privileges I have is meeting the incredible business owners who pour their hearts into making our community such a special place.

Behind every storefront, restaurant, service company, nonprofit, and small business is a family taking a chance, working long hours, and investing in Charlotte County because they believe in this community.

Each summer, we often hear the reminder to “shop local” as business naturally slows with the season. While that support is certainly appreciated, I’d like to encourage all of us to think even bigger. Shopping local shouldn’t be a seasonal campaign; it should be a year-round commitment.

Every dollar spent at a local business helps strengthen the community we all call home. It supports local jobs, keeps dollars circulating in our economy, helps fund community improvements, and allows businesses to give back through sponsorships, charitable donations, and volunteerism.

Many of the events, youth programs, nonprofits, and community celebrations we enjoy are made possible because local businesses choose to invest right here in Charlotte County.

As consumers, we have more influence than we sometimes realize. Every time we choose a local restaurant over a chain, purchase a gift from a neighborhood shop, or hire a local professional, we’re casting a vote for the kind of community we want to live in.

Charlotte County is more than beautiful sunsets, scenic waterways, and sunshine.

It’s the people. It’s the relationships. It’s the businesses that greet you by name, remember your family, and genuinely care about their customers.

I encourage everyone to make shopping local part of your everyday routine; not just when business is slow, but throughout the entire year.

Together, we can continue building a stronger economy, supporting local dreams, and preserving the unique character that makes Charlotte County such an extraordinary place to live, work, and do business.

New Teachers’ Breakfast , 7:30-8:45 a.m. Thursday, July 30, Charlotte Harbor Event & Conference Center. This is a heart-warming opportunity for our members to sponsor a new teacher and have breakfast with them. Many new teachers are new to the area, and it’s a wonderful experience to hear their journey and then share all about the wonderful things Charlotte County has to offer. To sponsor a new teacher is $45 (which covers the breakfast to the new teacher and yourself). All sponsors have the opportunity to place marketing items in the goodie bag for each teacher (no flyers/paper).

A day in the life of your local Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce

Have you ever wondered what happens inside the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce on a typical day? The answer is simple; there really isn’t a “typical” day! While many people know us for ribbon cuttings, networking events, community events, and celebrations, that’s only part of the story.

Behind the scenes, our team is hard at work connecting businesses, answering questions, advocating for our members, planning events, welcoming new businesses, and finding new ways to make Charlotte County an even better place to live, work, and do business.

A day at our Chamber might begin by helping a new entrepreneur navigate the process of opening a business. A few minutes later, we may be introducing two members who discover they can work together.

Throughout the day, we’re meeting with community leaders, promoting local businesses, planning educational programs, welcoming visitors, answering relocation inquiries, and helping residents find the products and services they need.

One of the most rewarding parts of our work is watching relationships grow. Many of the introductions made through the Charlotte County Chamber become lasting business partnerships, lifelong friendships, and meaningful community collaborations. Those connections are what make our mission so rewarding.
